Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

Letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy,

It is very imprudent to deprive America of any of her privileges. If her commerce and friendship are of any importance to you, they are to be had on no other terms than leaving her in the full enjoyment of her rights.
Benjamin Franklin, Political Observations
If you think nobody cares if you exist, try missing a couple of payments.
Maturity, is the balance between courage and consideration.
Seeking to understand requires consideration; seeking to be understood takes courage.

Procrastination
Did you know that procrastination is a sin? I say that because sin is not merely doing wrong, it is failing to do what you ought to do.
Procrastination and disobedience are just different shades of the same sin. I heard a quote once that said it well:
“When you have a job to do,
Begin this very hour.
You supply the will,
God supplies the power.”
That is the will power we need to instantly obey!
Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.
–Norman Vincent Peale, best-selling author and minister
When you reach into tomorrow’s troubles, you overload today’s circuit. Worry doesn’t take the sorrow out of tomorrow, it takes the strength out of today.
Justice is getting what we deserve. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we don’t deserve.
“We do not know one promise these men(and women) made, one pledge they gave, one word they spoke; but we do know they summed up and perfected, by one supreme act, the highest virtues of men(and women) and citizens. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue.”
– James A. Garfield
May 30, 1868 Arlington National CemeteryMemorial Day, as Decoration Day gradually came to be known, originally honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War. But during World War I, the United States found itself embroiled in another major conflict, and the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars. For decades, Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30, the date Logan had selected for the first Decoration Day. Except for the south:
- Mississippi: Last Monday in April
- Alabama: Fourth Monday in April
- Georgia: April 26
- North Carolina: May 10
- South Carolina: May 10
- Louisiana: June 3
- Tennessee (Confederate Decoration Day): June 3
- Texas (Confederate Heroes Day): January 19
- Virginia: Last Monday in May
But in 1968 Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees; the change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.
