Actions and Reactions

Reactive vs Proactive

I’ve decided to be more proactive this year and less reactive.  Especially, how I treat myself and how I allow others to treat me.  I will no longer allow or aid food; or people to use and/or abuse me.  I suppose that most of us are reactive?  Just what does Reactive and Proactive mean?

Reactive people often react to their physical environment or people’s actions.  They find external sources to blame for their behavior or lack of action.

Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life if it’s in your power to do so.  Proactive people recognize that they are “response-able.”   That means making plans and following through.

Being proactive is about “handling your business”  as some would say.  To me, that means that what’s in my power to do, I do on a regular basis.  Is the change you want in your power to do?  Or, is it under someone else’s control?

I’m taking my power back from the ‘wanna be’s’  in my life!  “I wanna be slimmer.”  “I wanna be more fit.”  “I wanna be a better . . .?”  “I wanna, I wanna, I wanna.”  I can stay where I am and cry, complain and continue in my anger about circumstances.   Or I can quite crying about it and just do something!  Three months from now,  we could be in a whole new life-style if we so chose or still be crying about the same old things, three months from now.  Not me!  I’ve already started.  I am on my ‘To Do List.’  What about you?

A mind-style shift brings about new respect and appreciation for your body and mind and circumstances.  It starts with little changes.  This change will require goals and plans to be proactive, consistently.  Write.  Every day provides a new opportunity to recharge your new self instead of hitting the wall of procrastination.  It will take desire, knowledge and skill.

Happy New Year

Hope

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”  –George Eliot

A new year is like opening a present with potential.  What potential for yourself are you anticipating?  A new figure?  A new career?  A new man?  New friends?  A new hair color, cut or maybe try some weave??  Whatever your new flavor or life-style change, do you know the steps?  I’ve heard it said, ‘a goal without a plan is just a wish’ or something like that.

My clients often say they don’t have time to get a manicure or pedicure.  With a plan, many things are possible.  It’s the year to quite playing with who we’re pretending to be and start shaping our future with goals and plans.  Start from the inside out.

Turn Little Blessings Into Celebrations

Gorgeous sunsets.  Laughter of children.  A hot bubble bath.  A vacant parking space at the mall.  Celebrate each blessing.  Life is a journey.  Focus on all the little things that make it Joypleasurable.  Do not take today for granted.  You’ve already received and received and received so much from God.  Talk it up.  —M. Murdock

Life Wisdom

Do you know what Napoleon said about China?  “There lies a sleeping giant, and let him sleep, because if he awakens, he will shake the world.”

And I believe the church is just that: a sleeping giant.  We’re asleep because we have been chloroformed by the spirit of this age.

We’re bombarded on every side by all kinds of amusement.  Do you know what amuse means?  It’s a combination of two words.  Muse means to think, and the alpha prefix in front of it means “not to.”

We are a generation that is amusing ourselves into oblivion.  And it’s time to wake up!

If this were your last day on earth, how would you spend it? In amusement? Or in evangelism?

Love Worth Finding, Adrian Rogers

We can make another choice?

Life Wisdom

With the recent onslaught against women and mothers,  just a little something I wanted to put out there.  I love Dr. Adrian Rogers and the following was taken from one of his writings.

‘ . . .  the incredible impact godly mothers and grandmothers have on their families—and on our society!

“We are in difficulty today in America, like a ship lost at sea without a rudder or a compass, on a dark and stormy night.  The anchor is gone.  What is the anchor? It is motherhood, and there is a war against motherhood in America.  The result: immorality, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, militant feminism, juvenile delinquency, [and] all of this can be traced back to the homicide of the home that comes by the neglect of motherhood.”

Godly mothers and grandmothers truly are the anchor of the next generation.’

Are the mothers of today leaving a legacy of godliness as most of our Mothers, Moms, and MudDears of yesteryear?

Just something to think about?

Some Causes of Nail Problems

Manicured hands

While doing a manicure, I often ask clients how did they break a nail.  They ultimately say, they don’t know why or how their nails come to have a break, split or peel.  ‘It just peel or split like that?’  Some are legitimate reasons:  searching in a large purse, car door handle or just hit the nail and it breaks.  Breaks are often better than bending.  Believe me!  We all know the nail doesn’t grow out broken.  Broken nails are most likely due to some action or mishap by the client.  Some are just heavy-handed or use their nails as tools:  to open or peel something.  Most often its the thumb nail.

Cuticle care is very important to nail health.  If the cuticles are dry, cracked and tight, it could impede the nail growth.  The cuticle is actually a protective sheath that grows over the root of the nail. This is where your nail’s new cells are developed — the new cells grow and then push out existing nail, which is what causes the dead, whitened parts of your nail to grow over time and require trimming.  Washing the hands excessively can also cause dry brittle nails and dry tight cuticles.  Insufficient hydration through your diet can also cause dryness.

The bottom line:  healthy nails, have healthy cuticles
